CE Labelling Now Valid Until 31 December 2024

30
November 2022

There has been an announcement by the government that the CE mark will continue to be accepted, without a need for additional UKCA labelling, until 31 December 2024.

Thanks to Ultra Sport Europe for this clear summary of the CE/UKCA situation.

The link to the government guidance on UKCA is https://www.gov.uk/guidance/using-the-ukca-marking but to summarise:

  • A product already placed on the GB market with a CE mark before 11pm 31st December 2024 does not need to be remarked or re-certified.
  • An existing EU certificate can be used to apply for UKCA marking without the need for actual UK testing. This will be valid until the date that the EU certification expires or 31 December 2027 (whichever is sooner).
  • New products, or those without current EU certification, must be tested by a UK approved body for UKCA marking from 11pm on 31st December 2022.
  • The UKCA marking can be placed on a label (can be sticky labels) affixed to the product, product packaging or document accompanying the product, as long as it is secure enough that it will reach the end consumer, until 11pm on 31st December 2025.
  • Both the CE and UKCA markings can be applied to a product as long as neither prevents the other from being seen and the requirements of GB and EU legislation are met.
