How will the new app differ in practice?
As a web-based application you will need to be online to input data and use the app. We have checked the SLIDE test site, the local bars and restaurant and most of the ski area and there is an excellent 4G signal, and the website opens quickly and efficiently on a mobile signal. Please remember you will need to have your data enabled in roaming to use it, and don't forget to check your contract before you leave the UK for the price impact? If you do not have data enabled then there is a free wi-fi network at the test site bar you can log on and put all data then.
How is the new app different to the previous one?
The new app is website-based so it’s possible for everyone to use it, regardless of phone type or operating system (unlike the previous one). The new one also includes test scoring function for boots.The key functionality for browsing items and scoring remains the same. Additional features and categories may be added in the future.
Will the old app still work?
No, the old app is now redundant. Previous logins are no longer relevant either.
Why did we need a new app?
A new app was needed so that everyone attending the Test could use it, with different functionality for brands and testers. We wanted brands to be able to have more control of their product lists and to generate reports in real time.
Is the app downloadable onto my phone?
No, as it is essentially a clever, interactive website, the app isn’t downloadable for iPhone or Android.
Can I add the new app to my phone’s Home Screen?
You simply go to the website URL in your preferred browser - Safari or Google Chrome for example, then for iPhone look to the bottom of the screen and touch the ’Share’ button, scroll down to ‘Add to Home Screen’ - this will produce a small icon on your Home Screen. With one touch you can now open this as if it were an app, and it takes you direct to the log in page where you can remain signed in with your ID whereever you have a 4G signal or WiFi.
Can I use the new app on my phone?
Yes 100% if you’re a Tester – that is what it’s intended for. It’s different for Brands & Suppliers though – they need to access the app on laptop and manage their data etc from there. (We will be looking to make it available to brands on phones for next year though.)
What new functions does the new app have for Testers?
Testers will be given a unique passkey for the app, and for convenience, this passkey is available as a Digital Wallet Pass on phones, like a boarding pass.
Functions for testing are similar to before – testers can view all skis and boots from available brands, add scores & comments (both public and private), check themselves and an item in & out for testing by scanning the QR code on their pass & on the item. This helps security for the brands. A tester can generate a Results Report which can be emailed as a pdf. You can’t add additional Testers via the app though, you still need to email us those details.
What new functions does the new app have for brands?
Brands are also given a unique passkey to access their own brand area in the app, where they can upload and edit ski/boot data and brand logo, add brand delegates, view real-time scores & comments from testers and download Test reports.
All brand delegates attending the Test are also given their own unique passkey, which forms part of their accreditation and means they are in the database – so they can receive info, emails and updates directly by email.
How do I get my login details?
All Testers and Brand Delegates who have supplied us with their information will be emailed their login and passkey on the Monday, one week before the Test begins.
I haven’t got my login. What do I do?
Prior to the test, please email sarah@hillsideoutside.com & we’ll resend your login. At the Test, please come to the Hillside Outside tent & we’ll be able to help you.
Our brand has a new brand delegate. How can we add them to the app & get their accreditation to the Test?
In your brand area, go to Settings & Delegates then + Add Delegate – you’ll need to add their name & email address. All delegates must be added so they’re accredited at the Test and eligible for ski lift passes and other discounts. The new delegate will be emailed their accreditation.
Can I add the new app to my Home Screen?
Yes, you can add the app to your Home Screen. When you open the icon on your Home Screen, you won’t need to login with your passkey each time.
